Welcome to applied math in the Learning Alternatives program. This course will help prepare you for math in the real world. The first part of the course will focus on math skills that are needed to get into a school such as SMCC and USM. If you don't have the basic math skills to pass the entrance math exam, you will find yourself taking and paying for math courses that do not count towards college credit. In addition, these math skills will also connect to the boat building project at Compass. Here we will take the math skills and apply it to a boat built by the entire class. The second half of the course will focus on financial planning and cost analysis of our boat. Topics such as budgets, loans and credit reports will be some of the areas we will explore.
