Course Description: The focus of this class is financial literacy. It is essentially preparing you for a solid financial background as you go into our global economy as a consumer. You will learn, refine and master basic math skills that will prepare you for making decisions regarding loans, budgets, mortgages, credit cards and day to day spending. You will analyze your own spending and saving habits and develop a budget blueprint. In addition, we will be doing some project based learning at the Compass project in Portland. Using math skills, students will build a boat in its entirety.
Expectations:
- Be prepared for class each day with your three ring binder, writing utensils, charged ipad and open mind.
- Be present each class.
- Do your best.
- Respect our classroom as a community of learners.
- Practice digital citizenship.
Grading:
- Classwork-30% (including Compass project visits)
- Tests/assessments/projects-40%
- Quizes-20%
- Homework/warm ups-10%
Late work: If you have an excused absence from school, you have two weeks to make up an missing work.
